Swimzone (Frederick Holmes Pool, Inglemire Lane, Hull)

At Swimzone we offer a progressive "Learn to Swim Programme".  Pupils may join at the age of 5 years and progress to the end of Level 3 and they can then move to our Level 4 which runs from the pool at Hymers College in Hull.

Level 1This course is for children aged 5 years and older who cannot swim.   We will be teaching water confidence and the basics of swimming on front and back. The emphasis will be on ensuring the pupils remain happy around water and begin to gain confidence to move independently over a distance of 5m.

Level 2 - This course is suitable for pupils who are comfortable moving independntly over 5m on their front and back.  The pupils will be taught about body positioning, giving them confidence to relax in the water.  Breaststroke will be introduced along with further waterskills.

Level 3 - This course is suitable for pupils who have gained confidence in moving independently over 5m with a relaxed body position.  The chidren will receive tuition and encouragement to swim a distance of 10m on their front and back, to include basic breaststroke action.  Waterskills will continue to be developed with an aim to giving pupils the confidence to "jump" into water which is a real must for those fun days at the pool!

BabySwimzone & Swimzone (Ganton School Pool, Anlaby Park Road South, Hull)

At BabySwimzone we offer a progressive "Water confidence and Learn to Swim Programme". Pupils may join at the age of 2 months with an upper age of 5 years. From age 5 years we can offer the pupils a place at SWIMZONE which runs from the pools at the Ganton School and the Hymers College Pool.

Parent and Baby - These courses are designed for babies aged 2 months to 3 years. Parents will be given instruction to help them gain water confidence with their baby/toddler. A progressive programme is used to help motivate the children and build confidence and waterskills gradually.

Pre school 1 - This course is for children aged 3 - 41/2 years. Parents go in the water with their child providing 1:1 support. The instructor is also in the water, giving instruction to parents. The children will learn water confidence and the basics of moving through water on their front and back. The emphasis will be on enjoyment and play, preparing the children for the inevitable "splash" of water so that they can move forward through our Learn to Swim Programme without fear.

Pre-school 2 - This course is for children aged 41/2 years of age. Parents/guardians are not required to go in the pool with their child at this venue and therefore these classes suit parents/guardians who "prefer not to be in the water". The class teacher goes into the water with the children to provide emotional and physical support to each child. The lessons are based around fun and learning water confidence, encouraging each child to be independent when moving in the water.

Level 4 - At this level we will concentrate on improving the three main strokes, looking at body position and the arm and leg actions. The basic "dolphin" kick will be introduced to begin the teaching of the butterfly stroke. Waterskills remain throughout our levels and here we look at the next fun element "underwater swimming", another must for fun in the pool!

Level 5 - At this level we see the contiual improvement of the swimming strokes, with the introduction of the basic breathing techniques.  Waterskills remain part of the syllabus as they are valuable skills and the main one to be introduced at this level is "treading water".  This is a major skill in personal survival.
